SUMMER SEASON 2012
We are currently planning our Summer Season but we will hope to repeat our successful outdoor theatre evenings and of course the annual Easter Bunny Hunt and Plant Fair.
There are also plans afoot for a production of Madam Butterfly by The New Devon Opera - watch this space!
A summer of fun at Castle Hill 2011
Plant Fair
We were delighted to host again the Plant Heritage Fair on a beautiful sunny Easter Day. There were families and gardeners all enjoying the excellent array of plants by the West Wing. Children bounced on the Bouncy Castle and visitors wandered around the Spring Gardens.
Fantastic Mr Fox
We were delighted with our first outdoor production for families – Fantastic Mr Fox on 3rd June – in the Woodland Garden. Around 400 guests arrived with picnics and saw this wonderful play produced by Illyria in association with The Plough Theatre. The Pimms bar was a great draw and for many children a game of poo sticks was as much fun as Mr Fox!
Midsummer Music
To date, our most ambitious and exciting event was Midsummer Music starring Russell Watson, The National Symphony Orchestra, and Natasha Marsh. Around 3,200 people came, many with picnics, to enjoy a truly memorable evening for North Devon. Russell’s beautiful, haunting tenor voice echoing in the stunning 18th Century landscape park of Castle Hill was a real treat. We were delighted by the lovely comments we received afterwards and are considering a similar event in 2012. As well as picnics, there was a canapĂ© champagne reception, and a delicious buffet. Dinner was provided by Brend Hotels in the West Wing and a very glamorous marquee from Sound Events.
